Kiosk Mode

Turn Any Screen into a Staffed Checkpoint

A student leaves class with a pass to the library. Did they actually go? How long did it take? Kiosk Mode answers both questions. It turns a tablet, laptop, or wall-mounted display into a live monitoring station that shows who's on their way, confirms arrivals, and tracks wait times — all with a single tap.

How It Works

From Screen to Checkpoint in Seconds

A staff member opens Kiosk Mode, selects destinations to monitor, and the screen fills with live student cards. As students arrive, staff tap to check them in.

1

Open Kiosk Mode

Navigate to Kiosk Mode from the sidebar in the Vero app. It works on any device with a web browser.

2

Select Destinations

Choose one or more locations to monitor — Library, Sick Bay, Main Office, or any custom destination.

3

Watch Live Cards

Student cards appear in real time showing photo, name, year group, originating teacher, and time since departure.

4

Tap to Check In

When a student arrives, tap their card. The arrival time is recorded and the pass is updated instantly.

Features

Everything You Need for Live Monitoring

Multi-Location Monitoring

Watch a single destination or several at once. A library assistant might monitor just the library; a receptionist might watch Main Office, Sick Bay, and Guidance simultaneously.

Live Student Cards

Each card shows the student's photo, name, year group, originating teacher, destination, and a live counter showing time since departure.

One-Tap Check-In

When a student arrives, tap their card. The system records arrival time and updates the pass record. No typing, no scanning, no separate form.

Statistics Panel

A summary bar shows en-route count, arrived count, average wait time, and busiest location — all updating in real time.

Fullscreen Mode

Designed for dedicated displays. Tap fullscreen and the interface expands — no browser chrome, no distractions. Ideal for wall-mounted tablets.

Real-Time Updates

WebSocket-powered for instant updates. A 30-second polling fallback keeps the display current even if the connection drops. A status indicator confirms the feed is live.

History Panel

A slide-out panel shows recent arrivals — useful for checking who came through earlier in the period or reviewing check-in patterns at the end of the day.

Use Cases

What Schools Actually Use It For

Library Monitoring

The most common deployment. A tablet at the library entrance shows who's expected, when they left class, and which teacher sent them. Librarians check students in on arrival and can immediately see if someone never showed up.

Sick Bay Triage

Office staff see students heading to sick bay before they arrive. They can prepare, prioritise, and follow up if a student takes an unusually long time to get there.

Front Office Reception

When a student is sent to the main office, reception staff know they're coming, who sent them, and when they left. No more guesswork.

Exam or Event Marshalling

During exams or assemblies, kiosk displays can track students moving between venues, confirming arrivals and flagging anyone who hasn't appeared within an expected window.

Setup

No Extra Hardware Needed

Kiosk Mode requires no additional hardware beyond a device with a web browser. Open the app, navigate to Kiosk Mode from the sidebar, select your destinations, and you're live.

  • Laptops — at staffed desks like library counters or reception
  • Wall-mounted displays — for always-on monitoring in staffrooms or corridors
